Islam teaches that Allah has sent prophets to guide humanity throughout history. While the Quran mentions 25 prophets by name, it is believed that 124,000 prophets were sent to different nations and peoples (as referenced in a hadith reported by Ahmad and authenticated by scholars). These prophets all conveyed the same core message: worship one God (Allah) and follow His guidance.

Below is a list of the 25 prophets mentioned in the Quran, along with their Arabic names and their commonly known English equivalents.

Prophethood in Islam

Muslims believe that prophets were chosen by Allah to deliver His message, guiding people toward righteousness. All prophets preached Tawheed (the oneness of Allah) and instructed their people to worship Him alone. While some of these prophets brought scriptures—like the Torah to Musa (Moses), the Psalms to Dawud (David), and the Gospel to Isa (Jesus)—Islam teaches that the Quran, revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is the final and preserved revelation.

Final Messenger: Muhammad (PBUH)

Islam teaches that Muhammad (PBUH) is the final prophet and that no new prophets will come after him. His message completes and confirms the teachings of the previous prophets.

Conclusion

While only 25 prophets are mentioned in the Quran, Muslims believe that Allah sent thousands of prophets to different nations throughout history. Their core mission was always the same: to guide humanity to monotheism and righteousness.
